A visit to
Gettysburg is packed full of things to d o including touring the
Civil War Battlefields, visiting the local museums, enjoying the
local wineries and theatres and taking in the breathtaking
country scenery. In winter, you may even want to take in some
skiing at the resorts within a short drive away. Golf Courses
are plentiful and there is miniature golf is here for the
kiddies.
Gettysburg is a haven for the shopper in you! Gettysburg has may
shops selling authentic Civil War artifacts. Antique shops line
Gettysburg Square and twice a year there is an antique street
fair. Quaint shops selling local crafts and unique items are to
be found, as well as one of the largest teddy bear stores you
will ever see. Pet lovers will love the wonderful pet store in
town selling pet baked goods and pet fashions. In addition,
Gettysburg is home to many souvenir shops where you will
discover Civil War history books, maps and other items. Did we
mention that Gettysburg is home to a Fireworks warehouse?? The
surrounding countryside of Gettysburg is full of farm stands
selling local produce and goodies!

American Civil War Museum

American Museum of Military History

This special museum, in which it is "education that defines the museum, not location," offers a series of excellent programs that are designed to educate, enlighten and entertain. These programs cover the life and military career of General Ulysses S. Grant, a woman's perspective of the Civil War and life in the 1860's with Mrs. Julia Dent Grant, as well as the private lives of General and Mrs. Grant, a relationship that withstood the test of war and time. Programs include "A Visit with General Grant", "Mrs. Julia Dent Grant", and "General & Mrs. Grant".

Eisenhower National Historic Site

Eisenhower National Historic Site is the home and farm of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Located adjacent to the Gettysburg Battlefield, the farm served the President as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. With its peaceful setting and view of South Mountain, it was a much needed respite from Washington and a backdrop for efforts to reduce Cold War tensions.
Tour the President's home, enjoy a self-guided walk around the farm, or join a park ranger for an exploration of 1950s Secret Service operations or a look back at WWII and Ike's problems as Supreme Commander. |

General Lee's Headquarters

Civil War Museum housed in the Gettysburg headquarters of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. It was in this house that Gen. Lee & his staff planned the Battle of Gettysburg. Tour the museum’s exhibits located in this historic structure. Artifacts from the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War are showcased. Visitors will also find a small museum store which is located on site with keepsakes from your General Lee's Headquarters visit.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory in the summer of 1863 that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Confederacy", it was the war's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties. It also provided President Abraham Lincoln with the setting for his most famous address.
Gettysburg National Military Park offers a full range of summer ranger programs, battlefield walks, evening campfire programs, and other special events including living history groups and band concerts to assist in preserving and interpreting this special piece of American History. |

Lincoln Train Museum

On display is the Lincoln Toy Train Collection with operating layouts featuring over 1000 trains and dioramas illustrating the role of the railroad during the Civil War.
The Station Master's Gift Shop features an extensive array of railroad memorabilia and Gettysburg souvenirs.
The Lincoln Trail Museum is also home to the "Lincoln Train Ride", where you can ride aboard the Presidential Train with President Lincoln as he travels to Gettysburg to dedicate the National Cemetery "with a few appropriate remarks".
